How to Slow Down Enough to ENJOY Summer!

11 Jul 2013, by michelle in personal development, self-care, Stress, Uncategorized
FINALLY good ol’ Wisconsin has gotten some HOT summer weather!  I can’t even describe how much I am loving and soaking in every bit of time at the lake, beach, and in a hammock! hammock

I’ve been thinking of you and wondering how your summer is going because I want you to savor this special time of year too!

If summer fun is going by too quickly – you’ll be surprised at how much one daily practice can help you to slow down, receive and access greater joy.   It is a practice I have incorporated into my life for over a decade now.

Do you know what it is?

Yep,  you guessed it – MEDITATION

Summer is an absolutely brilliant time to add this practice into your daily life.  So, come on, give it a try!

Still resistant?  Check out this great article from the New York Times here.

If I can’t convince you how great meditation is, the NYT should!

If you’ve tried mediation before but still have trouble, here are some really simple tips:

meditation
1. Keep it short.  Many people avoid mediation because they feel like they need to dedicate 20 minutes a day.  5 is all you need and who can’t do that?

2. Keep it scheduled.  If you keep your meditation time around the same time each day,  you are less likely to forget about it AND it becomes a part of your daily life.  That’s a really good habit to gain!

3. Keep it simple. We take meditation way too seriously.  All it is really is giving something your monkey mind to focus on in order that you can learn to receive. So what’s it going to be for your monkey mind to have enough focus?  Will it be on your breath, a mantra, a candle, nature?  Give them all a try and see which one works best for you.

If you have a great meditation practice, and tips that have worked for you, please share in the comment section below.  Or share what’s getting in your way of meditating.  I would love to hear from you!

In 30 days, all you are looking for at first is a second or two of repreive from the mind chatter. That is it!

Give this time to you, learn to be a better receiver, and enjoy all that this summer has to offer you!

With Love,

Hi Michelle, In our great country Kenya, we are now in our winter. June, July and August are usually cold and wet months. Our great summer is January and February. and given that we are in the tropics and Equator passes right across our country, seasons are manageable. |Interestingly, I have been a meditater for the last over 20 years and I agree with you. I learnt how to talk to my mind instead of using candles, flowers etc because if I visited with friends and I needed to do meditation, then it would be a hustle. Talking to ones mind is great and it calms the ‘monkey mind’ and at the end of the talk, one is able to focus on whatever they meant to focus on. Thanks for joining the club. Lots of love
